Alexander Barnett was admitted to practice in NSW in 2008 and was called to the bar in 2014. Prior to this, he was a Senior Associate at Kennedys Lawyers, where he worked in commercial litigation. His principal areas of expertise are insurance, corporations and insolvency, building and construction, and professional negligence.
Alexander has extensive experience with general commercial disputes at the bar and accepts briefs in all areas of law. He has experience in large, complex commercial litigation, and has acted and appeared in a number of class actions. Alexander also has experience in smaller cases. He acts for both plaintiffs and defendants and his clients include corporations, insurers, government bodies and individuals.
During his time at the bar Alexander has appeared both led and unled in trials, and on appeal in a range of courts and tribunals. He has appeared in the NSW Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW, Supreme Court of Queensland, Federal Court of Australia, District Court of NSW, Local Court of NSW and NCAT.
Recent cases include acting as junior counsel in the Springwood Bushfire Class Action (for London Insurers); and as a junior counsel in the Queensland Floods Class Action representing a Dam Operator.
